At its annual partner event, EXPLORE, in May 2022, Expedia Group debuted a three-tiered strategy to redefine its place in travel: 1) a new technology platform called Expedia Group™ Open World to power the industry; 2) a reimagined marketplace that rewards partners for delivering great traveller experiences; and 3) a focus on developing traveller technology that provides the right information to increase booking confidence. Expedia Group — which includes such brands as Hotels.com, Trivago, Vrbo, Orbitz and Hotwire — is using data-powered technology to build a more-resilient global travel ecosystem.

For the lodging side of its business, Expedia Group and Qtech Software, a travel technology software provider, announced in April an expanded collaboration to deliver access to Expedia Group’s travel supply to travel businesses globally through Qtech’s flagship technology platform, OTRAMS GO. As a result of this collaboration, travel businesses have greater accessibility to premium hotel content and technology via the OTRAMS GO platform, which will help generate higher revenue, grow businesses and improve efficiency in the travel ecosystem. For its aviation business, Expedia Group announced in April that, because of its renewed partnership with American Airlines, travellers booking American Airlines flights on Expedia Group sites will have more options to customize their travel and choose elevated offers, such as Main Plus.

Expedia Group’s Traveller Value Index: 2022 Outlook, based on a new study conducted in collaboration with Wakefield Research, suggests that after two years of enduring a global pandemic, people value travel and personal time more than ever. Travellers rank flex travel at the top of their priorities, while focusing on travelling for good, including tipping industry workers more and choosing less-crowded destinations. The report also reveals the new world of work will alter travellers’ priorities, as 56 percent of those who often work remotely are planning to take a “bleisure” style trip — extending a work trip for leisure, or vice versa.
