Vancouver Sun and National Post
I am a former news journalist who spent the bulk of her career with the Vancouver Sun – 30 years at the newspaper covering a large variety of topics from social services, cops and courts to first nations. While at the Sun I always took every opportunity, during my vacations, to see the world – mostly Europe and South America.
I enjoyed my news writing career but I always longed to have more time to do what I love to do and that is travel. In February, 2017 I had the opportunity to make a move and finally combine my two lifelong passions – travel and writing. The result is I can now dedicate myself full time as a travel writer and have the flexibility to pick up and go wherever and whenever I want (not possible when I was working full-time at the Vancouver Sun). The benefit of a news background is not only the contacts I made in the media industry but a reporter’s eye for detail – which I’ve found to be an advantage when it comes to travel writing.
I have contributed travel stories and photographs to the Vancouver Sun, the Toronto Sun, Canadian Traveller magazine, Travel Life, Bold Traveller magazine, Winnipeg Free Press, the Toronto Star as well as writing a regular travel feature for the Times Colonist. My travel stories have also appeared in the National Post and the Edmonton Sun. I have written features on places as diverse as Jamaica, Cuba, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Mexico, Utah, Russia, the Yukon as well as closer to home in Canada like Quebec City, Calgary, and Tofino, B.C. to name just a few destinations.
When I’m not on the road I call Victoria, B.C. home and enjoy hanging out with friends and family and my two cocker spaniels Poppy and Leo.
I’m also the proud mother of two daughters Chloe and Hannah, and in the past have been a volunteer with Special Olympics and a Vancouver soccer team for players with a developmental disability.
