Charlene Rooke is a Vancouver-based travel journalist who focuses on spirits, wine and food. Drinks Editor for the LCBO's Food & Drink in-store magazine in Ontario, she has traveled to almost 60 countries and contributes to Taste, Sip Northwest, The Alchemist, Vitis, enRoute, BCBusiness, The Globe and Mail and more. She trained as a artisan distiller at Moonshine Univesity in Louisville, KY, earned a Certified Specialist of Spirits from the SWE and is a WSET Spirits Educator and WSET Certified in Wine. She has written travel guidebooks about Edmonton and Vancouver and has edited magazines for Air Canada, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Mercedes-Benz Canada and Bombardier's private-jet division, plus consumer magazines Avenue Calgary and Western Living. The winner of more than 25 journalism awards, she has also taught magazine writing at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies. As a media executive, has been Editorial Director of the Custom Content Group at the Globe and Mail (overseeing publications from seasonal Ontario Travel guides to luxury city guides for HSBC). As Chief Content Officer of Western Canada’s largest independent media company, where she was also the Publisher of BCBusiness, she oversaw custom content strategies for travel-industry clients like BCAA, Tourism Vancouver and more.
