A full-time freelance writer, Anne has been a journalist for more than 30 years and has written for most of Canada’s major magazines and newspapers. Her work has been recognized with awards from TMAC, the North American Travel Journalists Association, the American and Canadian Church Press, the Canadian Business Press, the Canadian Society of Magazine Editors, The Canadian Association of Journalists and the City of Hamilton (established writer award).
Anne is a columnist for The Hamilton Spectator (her column is often picked up by other Ontario newspapers including the St. Catharines Standard, Kitchener Record, Welland Tribune, Niagara Falls Review and The Toronto Star). Her column is called The Other Side of Midlife and she frequently writes travel pieces that appeal to her demographic of midlife and older women.
She has written on everything from travelling on a budget in New York City to the history of the Underground Railroad in Buffalo, the ethics of opening the famous Kingston Penitentiary as a tourism attraction and the tiny and little-known Dutch island of Schiermonikoog.
She is the author of the award-winning memoir, My Year of Living Spiritually: One Woman's Secular Quest for a More Soulful Life (Douglas & McIntyre) and also works as a writing coach and memoir workshop and retreat leader in Canada and abroad. A
