While the world may have its eyes on Washington DC in 2024 ahead of November's election, Destination DC is showing how the city continues to write its own history as a premier destination and proving why there's Only 1 DC.

Stay at newly transformed boutique hotels like AKA Washington Circle, offering contemporary accommodations and amenities. Other exciting developments in hospitality include the highly anticipated rebranding of the former Mandarin Oriental into Salamander Washington, DC. Guests can experience luxury with modernly refreshed guest suites designed by Washington's own Thomas Pheasant, including its stunning gathering spaces and an expanded spa. At the hotel, guests and visitors can indulge in the city's evolving culinary scene with the opening of Dōgon by acclaimed chef Kwame Onwuachi, drawing inspiration from DC's heritage and the West African Dogon tribe. In addition, the opening of Arlo, which is slated for October, will be the city's first property from the independent lifestyle brand, promising a unique blend of historic preservation and modern amenities, featuring a rooftop lounge, pool, and innovative dining options.

The Washington Nationals, formerly the Montreal Expos, welcomed fans to Nationals Park on April 1 to kick off the 2024 baseball season. Summer has some of the most-anticipated events of the year, such as the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, slated during June 26–30 and July 3–7 — and featuring the program “Indigenous Voices of the Americas: Celebrating the National Museum of the American Indian.” This year’s Capital Pride Festival, from May 31 to June 9, not only celebrates the city’s LGBTQ+ community, but also starts the countdown to next year’s World Pride 2025, which earmarks D.C.’s 50th year of Pride celebrations. Enjoy the Fourth of July in none other than the nation’s capital, with fireworks, multidisciplinary works on some of the city’s top monuments and A Capitol Fourth, a celebration of D.C. and the United States featuring celebrity performances and guests at the National Mall. PBS will broadcast the event nationwide.

Once the fall colours paint the city, enjoy some of the city’s most anticipated festivals, like the H Street Festival, celebrating the vibrant culture of the H Street NE corridor with live music, food vendors, and art exhibits, and the DC Jazz Festival, where fans can enjoy performances by local and international artists throughout the city for the 20th anniversary of the festival.

DC proudly offers over 100 free things to do in the city, including the Smithsonian Museum, the National Gallery of Art and the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world.
