The Gateway City is making 2022 its year to see and be seen in the glow of its iconic archway by debuting exciting new experiences for all types of travelers. The popular Great Forest Park Balloon Race will celebrate its 50th anniversary Sept. 17–18. The country’s oldest and largest free balloon event will bring even more spectacular sights in 2022 with one of the most-prestigious and highly attended single-day balloon races in the country — the Balloon Glow (aka The Gaslight Glow) the night before the race. Several new cultural experiences and art exhibits are also on tap at the Contemporary Art Museum, the Aronson Fine Arts Center and the St. Louis Art Museum. New attractions at Six Flags St. Louis include the CATWOMAN Whip, featuring a giant arm that catapults guests 164 feet in the air at speeds of up to 52 mph, only to plummet to the ground and then repeat the rotation.

The St. Louis Art Fair (Sept. 9–10) is the destination for high-end visual art and engaging live performances on two separate stages, featuring jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop and everything in between. Music at the Intersection (Sept. 10–11) will highlight more than 60 acts on six world-renowned stages throughout the Grand Center’s Arts District. The City Foundry STL, a bustling public market filled with dining outlets, shops and entertainment, welcomes new must-see restaurants in 2022, including 4 Hens Creole Kitchen, City Winery and STL Toasted. James Beard Award semifinalist Nick Bognar, owner of Indo Restaurant and named one of the 10 best new chefs in America, will open a sushi restaurant, Sado, in the former Giovanni’s on the Hill in the fall. 21c Museum Hotels, a contemporary art museum/hospitality brand, is renovating downtown St. Louis' historic YMCA building and is expected to unveil 21c Museum Hotel St. Louis in late 2022.
